Lisa Gingles works across drawing, collage and sculpture, giving form to objects and figures that hold feeling at a slight remove, tender but never quite settled. Her work draws on mythology, folklore, travel and memory, shaped by a life divided between Northern Ireland, where she was born in 1974, and Valencia, her home since 1998.
Heart Made of Sand takes the shape of a heart cast in resin, its surface embedded with real sand, finished in acrylic and set within a wooden box. The material choice is direct: a heart built from something that shifts, scatters and never quite holds its form for long, held together here only by the resin that binds it. Enclosed in its box, the piece reads as something kept safe precisely because it is so easily lost.
To collect Heart Made of Sand is to hold an object about the fragility of feeling made unusually literal, cast by hand from materials that resist permanence and made permanent anyway. It is a small, tactile piece from an artist whose work continues to draw growing attention beyond Ireland.
