Every artwork travels protected with the same care with which it was chosen.
María Cobas (b. A Coruña, 1982) studied Architecture between Spain and Denmark and practiced as an architect for four years before devoting herself exclusively to painting from 2009. Her work is poetic as much as it is reflective and critical, working from the slight and the unusual to imagine forms of relation that unsettle historical hierarchies and restore value to the diverse, the vulnerable and the untamed. She has exhibited widely in Spain and abroad, taking part in fairs such as Urvanity, JustMAD — where she won the Sero Art Collection’s Acquisition Prize — Art Taipei and Art Taichung, completed a residency at Mana Contemporary (New Jersey), and collaborates with galleries including Corey Helford Gallery (Los Angeles) and Espacio Líquido (Gijón).
To collect Lila-Lu is to own a unique 2025 painting by a Galician artist who traded architecture for painting, bringing that same precision to a visual language that is poetic, reflective and quietly critical of inherited hierarchies. With an international career spanning fairs, prizes and a residency at Mana Contemporary, and representation by galleries from Los Angeles to Gijón, María Cobas’s work is a considered addition to any collection built around sensitivity, resistance and the value of the untamed.
