Lisa Gingles works across drawing, collage and sculpture, giving form to animal and hybrid figures drawn from mythology, folklore, travel and memory. Alongside her larger enclosed works, she also makes smaller standalone cast pieces exploring texture and surface.
The first in a numbered series, Rusted Pig 1 is a small cast plaster figure of a pig, finished in specialised paints that build up a weathered, oxidised surface resembling aged, rusted metal. Compact and unadorned, the piece favours texture and finish over narrative staging, presenting the animal form plainly rather than within an enclosed setting.
To collect Rusted Pig 1 is to own a small, tactile cast piece that opens a new, more minimal series within Gingles’ wider body of work. It is a piece from an artist whose hybrid, folklore-rooted figures continue to gain growing international recognition.
