‘Fun fact is that I never learned how to play with skateboard 🛹 and I always feel like I don’t have it in my legs like I do in my hands. Some of my friends were skaters back in the days, so this can also be an homage to them.
In the last few years I made a bunch of artworks with similar elements, and some of them contained a part of laboratory. Now there’s a really great number of artworks from a few different series that I am considering taking all of those artworks and making them into some future series.
It all started inspired by some sci-fi movies, and some futuristic artworks from the 70’s & 80’s a few years ago and I would never have thought that it will continue until now.
I’ve opened my old archive and took one drawing out from back in 2018 which featured just one character, and said to myself why don’t I use it and make it into a regular drawing. Now I have more time to experiment and to check my older artworks…
I started this one in summer of 2018, but it’s finally finished.
I rarely draw skateboards in my artworks, but this one I really like, because it’s an old type of skateboard that we all used to have as kids, I just added some extra wheels.’
Davor Gromilovic
Davor Gromilović is a Serbian visual artist, born in 1985, whose work occupies a unique and compelling space within contemporary drawing and painting. Based in Sombor, his practice, while rooted in the pictorial, expansively explores art books, illustration, sculpture, and design, demonstrating a multifaceted creative intellect.
Gromilović’s art is profoundly narrative, weaving a rich tapestry of influences into a singular, imaginative aesthetic. He masterfully draws from the well of fairy tales, folk art, and Pop Surrealism, yet grounds his fantastical visions in the meticulous discipline and symbolic depth of Northern Renaissance masters. This synthesis results in a body of work that is both intricately symbolic and purified in its execution, offering complex reflections of his inner world and personal experiences.
His distinctive visual language, populated with recurring personal symbols, explores profound emotional landscapes, creating a universe that is at once mythical and intimately human. The significance of Gromilović’s work is affirmed by its inclusion in prestigious international private and public collections, such as the Solo Collection Museum in Madrid, the Luziah Hennessy Collection, and the Bernard Ruiz-Picasso Collection. Further cementing his international reputation, his work has been the subject of several solo publications—including Bestiary and Wrong Time Wrong Place—and featured in acclaimed international magazines from Germany’s Fukt to the USA’s Hi-Fructose Magazine.
