Lisa Gingles works across drawing, collage and sculpture, giving form to animal and hybrid figures drawn from mythology, folklore, travel and memory, constructing a territory where the human and the fantastical coexist.

Macha takes its title from the Irish goddess of the same name, one of the three Morrígna alongside her sisters the Morrígan and Badb — the same crow-goddess legend referenced in Gingles’ drawing Morrigan. In Irish mythology, the three could take the form of crows, appearing before battle as an omen of bloodshed to come.

To collect Macha is to bring home a drawing rooted in the same enduring Irish mythological figures as Morrigan, rendered with the same quiet, patient pencil work found across Gingles’ works on paper.
