Every artwork travels protected with the same care with which it was chosen.

Lisa Gingles works across drawing, collage and sculpture, giving form to animal and hybrid figures drawn from mythology, folklore, travel and memory. Alongside this figurative work, she also produces quieter, landscape-based drawings.

Ruins depicts Poenari Castle in Wallachia, Romania — the mountaintop fortress historically associated with Vlad III, Vlad the Impaler, the figure behind the Dracula legend — rendered in charcoal as it stands today: a fragmented ruin of collapsed walls and towers, worn by centuries and by the landslide and earthquakes that further reduced it through the 20th century.

To collect Ruins is to bring home a drawing built on real, weathered stone rather than invention — a quiet, patient study of a place already steeped in its own legend.
