Blacklight Gallery Valencia Inaugurates “Pop Surrealism and Other Stories”
Valencia’s Blacklight Gallery, directed by Susana Do Santos and Elena Blasco Romero, inaugurates its exhibition “Pop Surrealism and Other Stories” this Thursday, bringing together 15 national and international artists known for their meticulous technical execution and creation of fantastical worlds.
The exhibition, open until December 12, aims to “surprise and delight art lovers” with paintings that blend pop culture references, surreal narratives, and emotional depth. Featured artists include Valencia’s own Olga Esther and Dulk—both with internationally recognized work displayed in New York, Australia, and Japan—alongside creators like Bruno Pontiroli, Nicoletta Tomás, Sergio Mora, and Thomas Gieske.
Lowbrow Art (or Pop Surrealism), born in 1970s California as a rebellious, “unfashionable” style, takes center stage. The curators emphasize that these artists dared to elevate childhood fantasies and popular imagery into high art, crafting intimate worlds that explore universal concerns, provoke thought, and expose rarely discussed emotions.
The opening event (Thursday at 6:30 PM) will feature live music by David Garzinsky, Adri Castellanos, and Nacho Místico, enhancing the immersive experience.
“Pop Surrealism and Other Stories” invites viewers to rediscover fantasy as a powerful adult language and celebrates art as a breath of fresh air—unconventional, technically masterful, and deeply human.
