Surreal Pencil Artist from Madrid – Dreamlike Art by Carlos Fernandez “Penrider”
Late Start, Deep Passion
Born in Madrid in 1980, I didn’t begin drawing until I was 30 years old. What started as a curiosity quickly became a life-changing passion. Driven by a desire to make up for lost time, I immersed myself fully into the world of drawing during my first decade as an artist.
Self-Taught with a Focus on Pencil Drawing
Although I did not pursue formal Fine Arts education, I studied illustration and comics at the Higher School of Professional Drawing (ESDIP) in Madrid. Most of my learning, however, has been self-directed, developed through countless hours of focused practice and exploration.
Artistic Style and Inspiration
Specializing in pencil drawing, my work explores mysterious atmospheres and surreal themes. Through soft, delicate blurs, I aim to depict emotions, dreams, and feelings. I’m particularly inspired by loneliness, misunderstood characters, nature, animals, and the vast unknown of outer space.
Storytelling with an Open Ending
Each piece is a visual story with an open ending—inviting the viewer to engage emotionally and form their own interpretation. I strive to create art that feels personal, thought-provoking, and immersive.
Exhibitions and Recognition
Thanks to social media exposure, I have participated in several group exhibitions, leading to my first solo show at Haven Gallery in New York.
