Balu is a multidisciplinary artist from the Basque Country who has been based in the city of Barcelona for two decades. The artist creates works through decontextualization, transmutation, and transfiguration, theoretical concepts inherited from avant-garde movements such as Ready-Made, which have been central to his recent work.
In these works, the artist appropriates the public space and the elements that make it up, such as the signage found on the city’s bus shelters, urban furniture, debris, and more. He removes them from the context for which they were originally created, placing them in a different framework and assigning them a meaning separate from their origin, elevating them to a status of testimony of the primary artistic action—one that is developed in the city.
